Josh O'Connor is returning to the London stage in a filmed release of "Golden Boy," marking his first live performance in the city in five years. National Theatre Live will screen the recording in cinemas worldwide beginning Nov. 5.

The production played to sold-out houses at the Almeida Theatre. It is based on Clifford Odets' play and was directed by Sam Yates. O'Connor stars as Joe Bonaparte, a violinist who turns to professional boxing to chase fame and fortune.

Before this stage return, O'Connor built an international film and television career. He won an Emmy for his role as King Charles in Netflix's "The Crown." He also appeared in "La Chimera," "Challengers," "Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man," and "Disclosure Day."

An exclusive first-look clip features O'Connor's character grappling with his musical past. In the scene, Joe embraces a younger version of himself playing the violin while his face bleeds from a boxing injury. The footage was captured during a live performance at the Almeida.

The cast includes Hayley Squires and Daniel Mays. A live string quartet performs in the production. Tickets for the cinema release are on sale through the National Theatre Live website.

O'Connor has been mentioned in discussions about the next James Bond, but his next screen appearance will be this stage recording. The film captures the tension between his character's artistic origins and his violent new profession.
