Moviegoers will find a new family adventure in theaters on December 25, 2026. Sony Pictures confirmed the release date for Jumanji: Open World, positioning the film as a lighter option for holiday audiences.

The timing places the sequel immediately after a packed stretch of releases. Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are expected to dominate mid-December box office returns. Jumanji: Open World enters the market the following week to capture family audiences.

Jake Kasdan returns to the director's chair. He led the 2017 reboot Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which earned over $960 million worldwide. His 2019 follow-up, The Next Level, also performed strongly at the box office. Kasdan paused work on the third installment during the pandemic before resuming production in 2024.

The new trailer highlights the series' signature body-swapping chaos. It introduces a plot twist where the game escapes its console and spreads disorder into the real world. The film also includes a callback to the 1995 original. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan return to their roles as the in-game avatars.

The third film serves as the conclusion to the current trilogy. Sony describes the project as the final chapter in this specific iteration of the story. A lingering mystery from The Next Level involves the villain Jurgen the Brutal, played by Rory McCann. Johnson previously suggested that this character is the avatar of another real-world player whose identity remains unknown.
