Violence erupted at an apartment complex in northeast Miami-Dade County on Tuesday when a man and a woman were found dead inside a single-unit residence.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office reported that deputies from the Intracoastal District arrived at the 17000 block of Northeast 14th Avenue. The location is situated just blocks away from North Miami Beach High School. Upon entry, officers discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Daniel Castillo, the sheriff's office public information officer, stated that the man lived in the apartment. Preliminary findings indicate the woman did not reside there. Castillo explained that the woman had come to the unit to retrieve her belongings. He said the man allowed her inside, then armed himself with a firearm. He shot the woman and then shot himself.

Castillo noted that no children were present in the apartment at the time. Investigators are currently trying to determine the specific connection between the two victims. They are also seeking to identify any potential witnesses. Homicide detectives are reviewing the possibility that surveillance video captured the events.

Authorities are examining whether previous incidents occurred at the address. Castillo said more details on that inquiry would emerge later in the investigation. The names of the deceased have not yet been released. Officials indicated that further information would be provided on Thursday as the case develops.
