Singer José Manuel Figueroa publicly expressed concern for the well-being of his nephew, José Julián, during the ongoing custody dispute involving Maribel Guardia and Imelda Tuñón. Figueroa spoke to media outlets to share his perspective on the child’s situation, noting that he has not yet had the chance to meet the boy in person. He admitted that he had not had the fortune of getting to know the child but stated he perceives the infant to be in risky circumstances.
In his remarks, Figueroa described the child as exposed and neglected. He said the situation hurts him because the boy is a member of his family. The singer added that he hopes his assessment does not match reality and expressed a desire for Imelda Tuñón to be an exemplary mother. He clarified that his comments reflect his personal perspective and do not constitute a formal resolution regarding the living conditions of the child.
The legal conflict centers on the custody of José Julián, the son of the late Julián Figueroa. Julián Figueroa died on April 9, 2023, which preceded the current family dispute. Versions of events regarding a possible custody request differ between the two sides. Imelda Tuñón’s legal team asserts that Maribel Guardia initiated legal actions with the goal of gaining custody. The actress has denied this claim, stating that her legal efforts were aimed at establishing a coexistence arrangement with her grandson.
Alfonso Beceiro, the lawyer for Guardia, indicated that visitation procedures were suspended due to fears of new accusations. The case also involves a private psychological evaluation from the opposing side, which contains allegations of presumed aggression during meetings. The dispute has accumulated multiple family, civil, and legal proceedings. Protective measures are currently in place that restrict certain approaches and communications between the parties.
Legal experts note that the accounts provided by both sides must be distinguished from facts formally established in court. This distinction is important because the welfare of the child is the primary focus of the case. Despite the ongoing distance and legal hurdles, Figueroa sent a message to his young nephew. He stated that when the boy turns eighteen years old, he will be able to count on him if the child needs support from his uncle.
