Apple TV has confirmed the final three series regulars for 'Ascension,' a new drama from director Alfonso Cuarón. Amanda Plummer, Christopher Chung, and T'Nia Miller have officially joined the project. The studio has not released details regarding the specific roles they will portray.
These actors round out a cast that already includes Caitríona Balfe and Bill Nighy. Balfe portrays Rose, a documentary filmmaker and divorced mother. The character description notes she is skilled at uncovering others' truths but struggles to resolve her own. Nighy was announced as a star in a previous casting report.
Plummer is recognized for her work in 'Run' and 'Butterfly Kiss.' Christopher Chung appears in 'Slow Horses' and 'My Brilliant Career.' T'Nia Miller has credits in 'The Haunting of Bly Manor' and 'VisionQuest.' The series adapts Adam Nevill's novel 'Last Days.'
The plot centers on Rose beginning a documentary project about a 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension. She initially finds refuge in the group's teachings. This changes when she uncovers a more insidious truth beneath the surface.
Alfonso Cuarón co-writes the series with his brother Carlos Cuarón, Natalie Erika James, and Christian White. All four serve as executive producers. James and White act as co-showrunners, with James leading the directing duties. Balfe is also an executive producer on the show.
Alfonso Cuarón executive produces through Esperanto Filmoj, which holds an overall television deal with Apple. Gabriela Rodriguez and Richard Schwartz executive produce for Esperanto Filmoj. Steve Golin, David Levine, and Zack Hayden executive produce for Anonymous Content. Anonymous produces the series, while Apple Studios serves as the studio.
